Do Not Pass Me By.......

I still love the old hymns of the church. Fanny Crosby wrote this hymn, though blind from 6 months of age. She said she would never trade being blind because she might not have written hymns to praise God. Recently, I heard the hymn "Savior, Savior" and was moved by it's words. Verse 1 says,

Let me at Thy throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief,
Kneeling there in deep contrition;
Help my unbelief.

The chorus goes:

Savior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Can God pass us by? If we are sincere about kneeling before Him in deep contrition, would God pass us by? NO! This is what is so fantastic about the God I serve, He is omnipresent - everywhere - there is not a place in this universe that God is not. So when we sing do not pass me by - He's always been, His presence is everywhere. It is our choice to allow the Savior to pass by us and go on to someone else. It is not God's choice to pass us by. God can call on us and the whole world at the same time. To me this is a miraculous act. God is truly a God that is so amazing. Just think, He is with us at all times, we must initiate a relationship with Him. The Holy Spirit does bear witness with our Spirit, but we must allow Him into our life. We have to want this relationship.

The next verse says:

Trusting only in Thy merit,
Would I seek Thy face;
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Save me by Thy grace.

When we recognize that we are sinners, with wounded broken spirits, we can then be saved by His grace, but only if we allow the Spirit to move in our lives, trust in Him and see His face.

The last verse says:

Thou the Spring of all my comfort,
More than life to me,
Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
Whom in Heav’n but Thee?

After we have begun our relationship with Christ we can find comfort and know that He is more than life to us. Jesus becomes our all in all. Life as we knew it will never be the same because of the influence of Jesus and His Holy Spirit in our everyday life.
